Experimental archaeology – a tool for resolving fundamental scientific problems related to firing process and magnetism of different clay types
Supported by the Bulgarian National Science Fund
Grant KP-06-N30/2

EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY

is a Powerful Tool for:

  • Proving various archaeological hypotheses and assumptions
  • Clarifying important details of ancient firing technologies
  • Improving the accuracy of the modern interdisciplinary research methods

MAIN GOALS OF THE PROJECT:

  • To shed more light on the heating/cooling processes by registering a series of experimental firings in different thermal constructions (hearth, single chamber furnace and double chamber kiln)
  • To determine how the firing conditions affect the magnetic properties of different clay types
